Condemnation of the attack on US consulate in Libya by Venezuela

12 Sep

The Government of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela condemns in the strongest possible terms the terrorist attack perpetrated against the Consulate of the United States in the Libyan city of Benghazi which caused the death of U.S. Ambassador Chris Stevens and others in the diplomatic corps.

In transmitting its condolences to the family and friends of the victims, the Venezuelan government manifests its repudiation of this act of aggression, which violated the territorial sovereignty of the United States and the immunity that protects all diplomatic missions.

The government of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela recalls that on August 23, 2011, the Residence of the Ambassador of Venezuela in Libya was the object of a brutal assault by violent groups during NATO’s war against Libya, an event that was condemned by numerous countries and international institutions but about which Western powers remained silent.

The Bolivarian government of Venezuela maintains the conviction that the state of commotion that reigns today in Libya is a product of the colonialist policy of aggression, interference and hate sown by NATO countries that has destabilized and engendered violence and terrorism in this region of the world. For that reason, at the same time that we condemn and repudiate this attack, we call for an end to the interventionism and hate against the Arab and Muslim people.”
